Indonesia through a press conference held virtually on April 14, 2021 in the Press Conference Room of the GBK Main Stadium, ensures readiness to host the Asian Basketball Championship "FIBA Asia Cup 2021". The press conference was attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Gatot S. Dewabrato, Executive Director of FIBA Asia Hagop Kharijian, Chair of the Jakarta FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Organizing Committee Junas Miradiarsyah, and Deputy Chairperson of PP. Perbasi Francis Wanandi and followed by national and international media as well as basketball lovers.
FIBA Asia Cup 2021 is planned to be held on August 17 to 29, 2021 at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Jakarta. This championship is the first international sporting event at the Asian level to be held in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this press conference, the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 logo was also launched. This logo shows the distinctive features of Indonesia, namely a combination of batik patterns and Javanese eagle.
“I am excited to welcome the launch of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 logo. A logo that brings a strong Indonesian identity to it. I really believe the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 logo will inspire all young generations, basketball fans in Indonesia and all over Asia to support this extraordinary event, "said Gatot S. Dewabrata, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
FIBA Asia Executive Director, Hagop Khajirian said that the launch of this logo is an important milestone on the way to the FIBA Asia Cup 2021. This visual icon combines the unique attributes of the FIBA Asian Cup and Indonesia as the host country. Hagop also added that his party would coordinate with the FIBA Medical Commission, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to the World Health Organization (WHO) to design appropriate health protocols.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Jakarta FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Organizing Committee, Junas Miradiarsyah, stated that the organizing committee would strive to ensure that a series of Asian basketball championship activities can be held successfully without being affected by the COVID-19 case. "Our focus is on how we can hold the event successfully without a COVID-19 case because we want this event to be the first international event to be held in the midst of a pandemic. This championship is a challenge, as well as an opportunity for us as the organizers to successfully hold the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 and fulfill the expectations of FIBA Asia member countries, ”explained Junas Miradiarsyah.
"We will make all preparations, both in organizing activities and also the Indonesian national team so that they can show their best so that they can compete with other participants", concluded Francis Wanandi.
